I think family court judges must lose some perspective about divorce and heartache after years of dealing out the final legal blow to a family. I understand they must be impartial, but for goodness sake, Ms Baker, show some mercy to those who don't WANT to get a divorce. Shouldn't there be some kind of incentive to keep families together? The title suggests that there is some softness in divorce (or at least in the book) but it is a very dry, legal and hopeless process for what to expect when you go through a divorce. Good for those who are going through the process without a lawyer (or with a lawyer who doesn't explain the process) but not at all what I expected based on the title.

As a reader, I have one question. Where was this book when I trekked the treacherous mountains of divorce? Her questions, suggestions and practical advice make this book a must-read for anyone in the midst of the storm. Often while in the storm, you aren't able to reach for help, therefore buy this book for the one you know needs it. You'll do them a favor!
The Heart of Divorce is written for people who need to understand the process of divorce. It has been utilized as a presentation for several organizations including therapists and paralegals who face helping people with decisions on a daily basis. Judge Baker writes with kindness and compassion. She learned, from her many years on the bench, the heartache that divorce causes for families. In her book, she desires to move people from the adversarial thought processes often involved in divorce to one of compassion and understanding by all parties. She is a kind and considerate person who utilizes her knowledge to help people throughout a very trying time. Good work Judge Baker. Please continue your efforts for the good of all people.
